Day 1

Airport Zanzibar - Stone Town

Today you fly to Zanzibar on your own. Upon arrival you will immediately notice why this is called a tropical island. You are surrounded by heat .... and palm trees. You will be picked up by a taxi driver and taken to your hotel in Stone Town.

Stone Town is on the World Heritage List. The houses are built of coral stone. In the 19th century, the Sultan of Oman decided to make Zanzibar the capital of his empire so that he could control the trade route. As a result, you will see many influences of Oman in the city and many old palaces from this period are on the coastline. But the large trade in herbs and ivory, among other things, also caused people from all over the world to settle on this island. You will experience the influences of many parts of the world through the small streets of Stone Town, including the Arab, Indian, European and of course African. This mix of cultures makes Stone Town so fascinating. Unfortunately Zanzibar was also an important place for the slavery trade that was in Africa. On the island and also in Stone Town there are a number of cellars to visit from this period. The doors in Stone Town are also famous. There are more than 500 wooden doors with the most beautiful decorations.

Depending on your arrival time, you can walk around the small streets or relax on a terrace at the beach, with your feet in the sand, enjoying a beautiful sunset.

You will be welcomed by us and the program will be discussed with you. We are also glad to help you with good tips for good restaurants. After this meet-and-greet you can walk around by yourself in the evening because everything is within walking distance.

Day 2

Stone Town - Chumbe Island

After your breakfast you will be picked up and taken to the place where the boat leaves for Chumbe Island. It is about 45 minutes sailing and on arrival you will receive a warm welcome. You can relax before your lunch is served. Chumbe Island Coral Park is a very special island located just off the coast of Zanzibar. It is a nature reserve and was founded in 1991 with the aim to protect nature here. An eco-lodge with 7 eco-bungalows has been built on the island. Each bungalow is eco-friendly which means that the water that is used is collected rainwater. It has a compost toilet, a shower with hot and cold water and only sin energy is used. A nice initiative. The reef that surrounds the island is protected so that no fishing is allowed and no one is allowed to take away something so that it is completely untouched. You will see beautiful coral and many different fish. You can not dive, but at this location you do not need it either, with snorkeling you can see the beautiful underwater life here. On the island itself there is a protected forest with more than 120 different trees and plants. These live here without groundwater which is already special. The forest is built on coral stone which keeps rainwater and gives water to all trees. Different animals live in the forest. Of course there are many birds here, but also snakes (non-toxic), lizards but also the Veins diver, a small antelope that is threatened with extinction. In addition, in this forest also lives the coconut crab, the largest ground crab that exists and is 45 cm tall. This crab is mainly visible at night when it comes out of its hole in search of food. This is really very special to see. All meals are included and the lodge is famous for its good cuisine.

Day 3 and 4

Chumbe Island

These days you can relax and walk around on the beach and in the forest. If the tide is low, you can walk around the island even in an hour. But there are also snorkel trips and nature walks that are included in the price. During the organized walk, a guide tells about the origins of the island, how plants have adapted to live without groundwater and the medicinal use of plants. During snorkeling you have a great chance to see groups of batfish. There are also many stingrays here and sea turtles live here. All these animals live in the beautiful coral environment that is also described by experts as one of the most beautiful corals in the world. Organized trips are organized every day for about one hour, but you can also snorkel yourself if you stick to the rules. Do you want to dive then this is not possible at this reef, but we can ask what the possibilities are.

Day 5

Chumbe Island- Stone Town

Today you fly back to Zanzibar where you will your taxi driver and brought back to your hotel in Stone Town. Depending on your flight, you can make a number of excursions in the city this afternoon. You will learn a lot about the history and customs of the local population during the cultural walk. He also takes you to places that are difficult to find by yourself and visit the local market, the Slave trade place and one of the museums.
